day 321

Today was Emily's official birthday! Christine and I spent the day getting the apartment and everything ready for her party. By the time she got there, everything was decorated, we had a table full of her favorite foods, and there was an ice cream cake chilling in the freezer after a near-cake-disaster-turned-success. We had Ledo's for dinner and then got ready to celebrate! It was such a fun night - and a funny morning after :) Love you Em! Happy 21st!

day 320

After babysitting I drove to Baltimore to begin the weekend of Emily's birthday celebrations! I had dinner with her family and Maggie, and some of her high school friends came over after for cake. I looove Friday night dinners with Em's family! (And I'm loving this summer of 21st birthdays!)

day 319

I saw this sign today while we were walking around Adams Morgan, and I was a little confused. First of all, what is a crackberry massage? And second of all, I didn't know that places existed where you could pay $15 just to take a nap. I was a little bit intrigued, but not enough to investigate and figure out what this place was all about.

day 319

Another hot one...we stayed inside today except for a quick run to CVS for some toilet paper. Everyone keeps asking me if I get bored being with a 3 month old all day, but to be honest the day flies by! When he's awake we just play and talk and I could stare at him forever, and when he's asleep I catch up on TV or facebook or reading...this is seriously the best summer job ever.

day 318

Today was the hottest day of the summer so far (I think it got into the triple digits!) so Julian, Ziggy and I decided it would be best to just hang out in the air conditioning alllll day!

day 317

Julian and I took a field trip today to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History! (such a cultured baby, right!?) I'm a little ashamed that I've been going to school 10 miles away from D.C. for 3 years and haven't taken advantage of all of the amazing Smithsonian Museums, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity! I managed the Metro escalators with the stroller (will metro ever fix the elevator at the U Street stop?) and was pretty proud of myself for our successful outing! Julian was a trooper...he really liked the ocean exhibit, but wasn't a fan of the Hall of Human Origins (cavemen = scary...i kind of agree!).

day 316

Katlyn and I took an adventure this morning to an amazing farmers market/flea market downtown. I wanted to buy everything I saw at the flea market, and Kate and I agreed that all we wanted after we left was to have our own homes full of big empty rooms to decorate with the beautiful things they were selling. There were so many fun stands at the Farmer's Market - my personal favorite was called Oh! Pickles, where you could order a single pickle on stick or a container full of them. (I opted for a full container, obviously!) I also stocked up on lots of fresh veggies and a yummy smelling candle. I'll definitely be making my way back there soon - maybe it will even become a Sunday morning tradition!

day 315

So I officially turned our living room into scrapbook central and finally started to organize and begin scrapbooking my trip to Spain last summer. It's harder than I thought it would be to sort through and display all 7 weeks of pictures and mementos, but it's also so fun to go back through all of those memories!

day 314

Loving these SkinnyGirl Margaritas, and loving the ladies I got to drink them with tonight ! Thanks Bethenny, Katlyn and Ashley! :)

day 313

Ashley came into the city to play with Julian and me today! We had lunch at D.C. Noodles and then just hung out with him for the afternoon. He was extra cute today :)

day 312

Time for another specials board at Chevys! (Even though I feel like I just made this one?) Anyway, seasonal flavor is Watermelon, and it is delish, if I do say so myself! Come in and try it for yourself! (And do it quick because I don't know how much longer I'll be working there!)

day 311

Another Tuesday night at Chevys. I think it cost me more gas money to drive down there than I made in tip money - oh wellll!

day 310

Finally, the real fourth of July! I'm loving that it fell on a Monday, because it just means an extra day of celebrations! Today we had a bunch of family over for a cookout and I attempted to make a red, white and blue layered cake. There were a few minor mishaps, but I'd say it came out pretty well for a first try!

day 308 and 309

You get two days in one post! (Because Blogger is weird and/or I'm too tired to fix a mistake I just made!)

Day 308
Today began a 3 day-long celebration of the 4th of July! I spent the day celebrating with some of my favorite people along the shores of .... some body of water in Maryland? Whichever body of water it was, it was beautiful and lots of fun! What could be bad when you have friends, frozen drinks, and fireworks? Nothing, that's what.

Day 309
I headed home today for a 2nd 4th of July celebration at our pool. It was maybe, possibly the best fireworks show I've ever seen! (And having this new camera helped too =] )

day 307

I'm sorry, but he's just the cutest thing I've ever seen!

day 306

Today was a day full of babies! My other cousins (Oliver and Eleanor) from California just had twin baby girls a month after Julian was born, and they were here visiting today! Julian and I ventured out to the suburbs for one big baby play date, so he could hang out with his cousins Louise and Daphne :) How cute are these little girls??

day 305

I just discovered an ah-may-zing cupcake place around the corner from Mike and Sara while Julian and I were on a walk today. Can't decide if this is a great thing or a terrible thing - we'll see how often I end up going back. All I know was that the cream cheese icing on my red velvet cupcake was heavenly!

day 304

Today Julian and I ventured out into the city to get some fresh air and find something for lunch. Julian's still on the milk-only diet, so I got to decide where we went :) Mike and Sara live right around the corner from the famous Ben's Chili Bowl, something I've heard about from my friends but never experienced for myself. I'm not really a chili fan, but hear the hot dogs were delish even without the chili - I tried it out and it was everything it's cracked up to be!

day 303

Today was the first day of my summer job - potentially the best job I've ever had. I'm babysitting for my cousins Mike and Sara's adorable, cuddly, smiley, 3 month old baby boy, Julian. They needed a babysitter for a few weeks before they move to California, and I needed a job for a few weeks between being at home and starting school again! I'm so happy this worked out, and that I get to play with that cute guy all day, every day for a month!

day 302

Add Image
Another day, another shower! This time is was a baby shower for my cousin Jen. She's due in August and doesn't know what she's having, hence all of the green and yellow presents. (There were SO many presents, she had to have 3 shifts of gift opening!) Can't wait to have another little Callaghan baby around :)

day 301

This weekend was so full of family events - I loved every minute of it! Today was my cousin Meredith's wedding shower. (She's in the middle of that picture, surrounded by her 4 sisters!)
Everything was beautiful, and it was so fun to be with so much family. (and I got to use my new camera all day!) She got so many great gifts - I wish you got to register at places like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel whenever you move into a new apartment!

day 300

I went out for the yummiest breakfast today with my momma and sisters - to a place that I've been dying to try forever! It's called the Classic Diner, and it looks so cute on the outside, I figured it would be just as cute on the inside. Turns out, it is! (Everyone else must think so too, because at the hostess stand is a little card with a list of all of the names of the paint colors they use inside! I guess they get frequent requests) Oh yeah, and the food is delicious too :) I'll definitely be returning more frequently while I'm home!

day 299

My first official use of my camera was tonight at Maddie's swim meet! Love that "sports" setting!

day 298

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my family - my beautiful, brand new camera! I've been saving up for this for a while (aka, I have no savings account anymore) and found this camera on sale at Staples! It's a Canon Rebel T1i, and I'm loving playing around with it. I can guarantee you that the quality of my pictures-of-the-day is about to improve exponentially!

day 297

Just installed this beauty in my apartment! It's an over the door drying rack. Simple, I know, but exciting nonetheless!

day 296

I drove down to College Park for the night, and drove around until I found this! It's Berwyn Heights Elementary School, where I'll be student teaching in 5th grade all next year! The school looks cute, and so does the little town that it's in. I'm beyond excited to start :)

day 295

I took Caley and her friends down to Ocean City for the day for a belated birthday celebration! It was a little chilly, but still a great day down the shore :)

day 294

I went to Staples today to look at cameras, but was distracted by this beautiful wall of markers. Seriously, is there anything better?

day 293

My friend Ashley got me a bottle of the oh-so-delicious SkinnyGirl Margarita for my birthday! I opened it tonight and loved it - can't wait to drink it with my ladies once we're all back together again!

day 291

I babysat a cute little boy in my neighborhood today, and the family has two dogs - a huge, old golden retriever and a new beagle puppy. The puppy adores the golden retriever, and the golden is just too old and tired to do anything but begrudgingly put up with his playfulness. I did catch this cute moment though!

day 290

Went to the library today! I forgot how great the library is - what could be better than free books?! I actually used to volunteer here in the summer when I was in middle school, and can count on one hand the number of times I've been back since then. I left with the book Three Cups of Tea, one I've been meaning to read for a lonngg time!

day 289

Today was Caley's 17th birthday! We were born two days (and four years!) apart. Unfortunately for her, it was also her first day of finals, so we celebrated low-key with some yummy red velvet cupcakes, and postponed a real celebration until school let out for the summer.
