day 231

Katlyn, Ashley and I got manicures and pedicures today!
Can you guess which two colors belong to which girl??

day 230

Testudo stopped by our SHH bake sale today!

day 229

Tonight we had a great fundraiser for SHH! Katlyn found out about a bar in Adams Morgan (D.C.) that has a program called "non-profit Thursdays." Different non-profit organizations can sign up for a Thursday, and from 5-9pm, 20% of all food purchased and $1 from every drink bought goes directly to the organization. In addition, we had a table where we were accepting donations and raffling off items. It was definitely a success, and we're going to try to do it again soon!

day 228

I know this is random, but I've passed it a few times leaving the CYC and am surprised it's not fixed yet! It's one of the campuses emergency blue lights. They are supposed to be stationed at intervals around campus for you to use if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to call the police. This one has been "out of order" for a while, and I looked around and didn't see any other blue light phones anywhere close by! Remind me not to be by myself over there at night ever!

day 227

I made breakfast for dinner tonight! I'm not sure why, but breakfast for dinner (or lunch sometimes in elementary school) always seemed like such a treat to me! Now that I'm making it for myself, and I realize how much easier it is to make breakfast foods than dinner foods - I wonder why my mom didn't do it more often when we were little!

day 226

I love this campus when the weather gets nice :)

(have I said that before??)

day 225

I don't think that I ever posted about this book/journal that I got for christmas, but I loooove it so much and figured I'd share it today because of the question it had! The way it works is there is a question for every day of the year...things ranging from the random ("On a scale of 1 to 10, how was your lunch today?") to the deep ("What makes you you?") to the cute ("Who did you kiss today?" is the question on February 14th!). What makes the journal so cool though is that there are 5 spaces to answer each question, with the idea being that you go back and fill out the questions year after year, seeing how your answers evolve as you grow older. I'm such a sucker for things like this and love filling it out each night.

I picked today to share it because the question was so fitting! In case you can't read it, the question is, "where do you feel the most at home?" My answer? "at home! on the 3rd chair at my kitchen counter." Pretty appropriate after being at home for the weekend, right?!

day 224

Tonight was the big surprise night for my mom's birthday. We told her she had to be ready to go by 4, and as we're all walking out the door to get in the car, there's a limo waiting in the driveway! She was so surprised, and it was so much fun :) We went downtown to Lucky Strikes bowling (so cool!) and Pizzeria Stella (so delicious!). Not to mention it was pretty sweet being chauffeured around in a limo for the entire night!

day 223

I went home today for my momma's birthday weekend and headed to the mall with Caley & Maddie when I got home. Last stop: the apple store to buy the iTouch Maddie's been saving for. She was soooo happy...and I don't think I saw much of her for the rest of the weekend once she had that thing loaded up.

day 222

today I rushed home from Chevy's, showered as quick as I could, and went out to celebrate some exciting news with my friends :)

day 221

they're building all sorts of new things over on north campus...one of which is a new convenience shop. the incon will always have a special place in my heart, but this new store is pretty nice too!

day 220

I had to take a picture of this picture-perfect blue sky over the CYC today - especially because it was an ugly, rainy day all day until this point!

day 219

another weekend ending with a journey back to college park...

day 218

The sign of a good party? The bar mitzvah boy passed out in a pool chair for a few hours the next day :)

day 217

Today was the big day - Brett's bar mitzvah! It was so much fun - a huuge extravaganza. The theme was "Brett's World Tour" and all of the guests were given "backstage passes." Of course, my camera died pretty early in the night so I don't have very many pictures, but you'll have to take my word for it...it was amazing!

day 216

Look at these cute cousins in the pool :) There's nothing like playing in the pool with these guys in 80 degree weather instead of being back in 40 degree Maryland.

day 215

Today I got up bright and early to catch a flight to Florida for my nephew Brett's bar mitzvah this weekend! Tonight we had dinner with my dad & Susan, Jennifer & Alessandro, and Lisa, Lily, Jake and Jack. Here's a failed attempt at getting Jake, Lily, and Jack to pose for a picture - it's hard to keep all of that energy still for any extended amount of time :)

day 214

Before Morgan left today we stopped by everyone's favorite (or maybe just my favorite) photo op spot on campus - the Memorial Chapel!

day 213

Today we had a mini Barcelona reunion! My friend Morgan (remember her and her sister Mallory from all of my Spain blog posts??) had to come to D.C. for a couple of days for work, and she came a day early to visit with me and Maggie! We had a delicious pizza dinner with some yogiberry for dessert, and had so much fun catching up and talking about Spain, Rome, and everything that's happened since we got back to the states! I was so glad to see her :) except that it reminded me of just how badly I want to go back to Spain...I've gotta find some way to make that happen!

day 212

I read this book on the recommendation of my friend Ashley - let's just say I owe her big time. I loved every second of this book and had trouble putting it down. It made me laugh out loud and cry all within the same 2 or 3 pages. I put a post-it note on any page where Esme made a great suggestion for my future classroom or whenever something she said really made me think. I almost ran out of post-it's by the time I was finished! You should definitely read this book!

Here's an excerpt from the last page, as Esme is watching her students graduate:

"People snicker, 'Those who can't do, teach.' But, oh, how right they are. I could never, ever do all I dream of doing. I could never, ever be an opera star, a baseball umpire, an earth scientist, an astronaut, a great lover, a great liar, a trapesze artisit, a dancer, a baker, a buddha, or a thousand other aspirations I have had, while having only been given one thin ticket in this lottery of life! In the recessional, as I watch them, mine, the ones I loved, I overflow with the joyous greed of a rich man counting coins. Wrongly I have thought teaching has lessened me at times, but now I experience a teacher's great euphoria, the knowledge like a drug that will keep me: thirty-one children. Thirty-one chances. Thirty-one futures, our futures."

day 211

backkkk to college park!

day 210

Today I FINALLY got to see this guy! I hadn't seen him since the semester started and he has gotten so so big! He's crawling all over the place and pulling himself up onto things and babbling away. Such a cutie :)

day 209

My dad was visiting Philadelphia this weekend while I was home and on Friday night I had dinner with him and my brother David at our favorite restaurant - the Imperial Inn in Chinatown. I tried to get a picture with Louie and Danny (our favorites) but they were m.i.a. when I finally got around to taking my camera out, so a picture of the restaurant will have to do!

day 208

We got back in the car today for the 9 hour drive back to College Park...followed by a 2 hour ride back to Berwyn to continue with part 2 of Spring Break.

day 207

we took a mini road trip into Savannah today, which may just be one of my favorite cities! Everything was so southern and beautiful and in full bloom (thank God for allergy medicine!) I couldn't pick just one picture from the day, so here are a few!
just a cute hat store on River Street
Paula Deen's restaurant, y'all!
my delicious pulled pork sandwich courtesy of Ms. Paula Deen
the "Life is Good" store there was called "Bob's Your Uncle"! Which I loved because...well, Bob is my uncle!

day 206

We started the day off right with mimosas by the pool :)

day 205

We packed in a ton on our first full day in Hilton Head - we hit the tennis courts, ate lunch at the Salty Dog cafe, shopped a little bit in South Beach Marina, rented bikes, went to the beach, rode our bikes into Harbourtown to shop, and had dinner Wild Wing Cafe. Whew! The picture is all of us in the cute rocking chairs along the marina in Harbourtown.

day 204

Today we hit the road at 5am to make the 9 hour trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina! We had to pull over at "South of the Border" after passing no less than 50 billboards advertising it on the way down. Turned out to be a let down, but I still made everyone get out of the car and take a picture :)
(we were all a little delirious from the car ride, if you couldn't tell from the picture.)

day 203

Today I got to help cater an event at the Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore! It was the coolest venue - in separate building with interesting modern art exhibits. We helped serve hors d'oeuvre during the cocktail hour, assemble salads on plates, and then serve/clear the dinner (for 180 people!) I really enjoyed it..and really enjoyed the cash handed to me at the end! A perfect beginning to a spring break vacation!
