day 312

Time for another specials board at Chevys! (Even though I feel like I just made this one?) Anyway, seasonal flavor is Watermelon, and it is delish, if I do say so myself! Come in and try it for yourself! (And do it quick because I don't know how much longer I'll be working there!)

day 311

Another Tuesday night at Chevys. I think it cost me more gas money to drive down there than I made in tip money - oh wellll!

day 259

I worked another double at Chevys today, but it was made 10x better when my friends came to visit for some post-finals margaritas and dinner :)

day 250

Today was Chevys biggest fiesta of the year - cinco de mayo!! It was packed from the second I got there until after 11, and everyone was loving the drink and food specials. Half of the parking lot was blocked off and there was a dj and bar outside, plus regular seating inside. It was such a fun night - next year I want to be celebrating at Chevys instead of working!
(the people in the picture are some of my chevys friends =] )

day 245

So today I worked ANOTHER double shift at Chevys. They're semi-painful, to say the least. And on this particular day, it was a very slow morning. All of the servers were just staring at each other complaining about how bored we were. So, the elementary teacher/camp counselor in me came out, and I decided to make the morning a little more interesting. I made a BINGO board, and in each square was either a menu item or an event. If that event happened at one of your tables, or if one of those menu items was ordered, you got to cross off that square. Everyone put in $1, and the first person to get 4 in a row won all of the money!

I didn't have my camera with me at work, so this is a phone picture...here's what some of the squares said in case you can't tell from this photo:

- someone asking "do you have to-go cups?" (you would be surprised how often this happens. no sir, we do not have to-go cups, and do you really need to take your 4th free refill of raspberry iced tea home with you?)
- someone ordering the pomegranate margarita, shrimp ceviche salad, or a "guac-my-way"
- someone telling us it's their birthday (even though, chances are it isn't actually their birthday, they just want the free dessert and sombrero)
- someone mispronouncing the crispy chicken flautas. (ma'm, the vowel blend "au" says "ow" or "aw", if they were pronounced crispy chicken flootas, we'd spell it that way.)

I was only one pomegranate lemonade away from winning! Oh well, maybe next time :)

day 243

I really wouldn't mind working at Chevy's if it weren't for this dumb job we have at the end of every shift - rolling silverware. Seriously - it takes for-ev-er, and the last thing I want to do at the end of the night is sit around and roll 70 knives and forks into napkins! Oh welllll!

day 232

A new season means another Chevy's project! This time it's the Baja Fresh menu and an advertisement for our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta! (and another free Chevy's meal for this girl!)

ps. See those two cute little dancing shrimp on the beach? Well when my manager asked me to do this board, he said "You can draw whatever you want, but maybe you could draw some dancing shrimp? Or maybe some drunken shrimp fishing on a boat?"

Oh sure Wayne, I'm an expert at drawing small cartoon crustaceans drinking margaritas, let me get right on that for you.

Thank God for Christine's artistic ability, or this board would have been severely shrimp-less, which would have made for a not-so-happy manager!

day 180

My boss called me this morning and asked if I'd work on another project for him. I was reluctant at first but then he told me it involved making a bulletin board and I automatically said yes. Arts and crafts are my favorite, and I can always use practice making bulletin boards (since I'll be doing it for the rest of my life.)

It's Chevy's W.I.G. (Wildly Important Goals) board! Isn't that the most exciting thing you've ever seen? (that was sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell...)

Anyways I got a free meal out of it and got to buy all kinds of fun school supplies to make the bulletin board :) and my boss loves me now, so it's all good!

Day 177

Today's picture of the day isn't actually a picture. It's a video! Today the official "Volunteer with SHH" video got released to youtube and vimeo, and I've already watched it approximately 27 times.

Everytime I watch it, I'm reminded of why I'm doing what I'm doing for SHH. In fact, I think I'll watch it again right now!

(the video quality is probably better if you click on the link on top of the video and actually watch it on youtube!)

day 176

Another entire day spent at Chevys. I'm not sure how many more/different pictures I can take when I've had a day like today, so this time you get my beautiful name tag! Everyone's nametag has a different little saying under it, and mine is a.k.a. Mango Rita. (some other ones are "fajita slinger" "chip addict" "salsa queen" and "guacologist")

I picked it just because I liked it, but it's turned out to be a great marketing tool! People will ask me what that means and I'll tell them our Mango Margarita is our most popular and delicious drink, and 8 out of 10 times they'll end up ordering one!

day 161

I worked my first-ever Saturday night shift at Chevys and look what I came away with! A $100 bill!
And as if that wasn't good enough, my friends came into the restaurant tonight from some margaritas and delicious food! All-in-all, it was a great shift.

day 82

Leah turned 20 on Thursday! We went to Chevy's to celebrate :)
i love this girl!!

(ps sorry for the phone-quality pic!)

day 75

At work on Wednesday night, my manager asked me to take the white board from the front of the restaurant with all of the specials on it home and "make it pretty." He told me he'd give me a free meal and let me go to CVS and buy all new white board markers in exchange for the job.

Little did he know that I LOVE whiteboards, have my own collection of markers, and didn't need any incentive to do this, but I wasn't about to turn down a free meal nor the chance to get some new markers.

Anyway, there it is! Aren't you craving some Mexican food now? Come visit me at work!

day 31

first official night at chevy's :) check out those tips! when all was said and done I think I ended up with somewhere between $35 and $40...not bad for a first night with a small section! it can only go up from there...

day 16

Today I had training at my new job. I'm officially a server at Chevy's in Greenbelt, MD! Craving a mango margarita or some homemade guacamole?! Come visit me and I'll hook you up :)
